Our admiration for the vineyard and for the nature that surrounds us has led us to work our lands on a plot-by-plot basis, adapting to the characteristics and circumstances of each one. We believe that manual work, up close to the vine, is the only way to work.
Some of our practices include applying our own animal and vegetable compost (excellent nourishment and balance for the soil); working with our flock of sheep to keep ground cover in check; ploughing our vineyards with horses; and green pruning to help control the production of each individual vine. For these reasons and many more, we are in tune with the philosophy of biodynamic growing, finding harmony between the animal, plant, and mineral worlds, the cosmos, and humans themselves. More than a way of working, it is, for us, a way of living.
We started work according to the guidelines given to us by Lydia and Claude Bourguignon, world-famous soil analysts. They told us that, if we hoped to preserve the family legacy, our lands needed to be tended to.
Years later, biodynamics has become our way of working the land. More than a philosophy of work, it is a philosophy of life based on the meticulous observation and treatment of the factors that influence our land and its habitat.
In 2015 we launched Aliances per la Terra, a group of winegrowing families from the Penedès region, with whom we learn, research and prepare our wines. With the passage of time, and the successive incorporations of new allies, Aliances per la Terra has become a movement with its own entity and recognition within the world of biodynamic viticulture.
Biodynamic preparations
Biodynamic agriculture

Through biodynamics, a step beyond ecology, we vivify our vines and seek to raise the levels of biodiversity: we apply infusions and decoctions of plants to avoid pests, we make our own preparations and our animal and vegetable compost from our garden medicinal plants and our farm with cows, sheep, donkeys, chickens and bees, among other animals. In this way we have a balanced and lively landscape, which at the same time will influence the quality of the grape, making it more expressive.
In 2014 we obtained the Demeter seal, which certifies the biodynamic agriculture of our vineyards. Likewise, the winemaking process carried out in the winery is also Demeter certified. This double recognition, for viticulture and winemaking, is unusual among the wines of our country.
In 2024, the members of Aliances per la Terra began a new stage, with the creation of our own seal that identifies us as biodynamic winegrowers and winemakers.

The grapes used to make Mas Escorpí wines are harvested by hand. We wait for the perfect moment of ripening for each of the varieties individually, then harvest the clusters whole and transport them in 25-kg crates to the cellar, which is located at the centre of the property. In this way, we ensure that the grapes used to make our terroir wines maintain all the necessary quality.

Pruning of respect

One of the most crucial operations carried out on the vine is pruning, since much of the vine’s development for the next vintage will depend on it. At Mas Escorpí, we prune with respect, following the guidelines of schools such as Simonit & Sirch or the Catalan Academy of Pruning — an organisation that we have fostered since its creation and continue to lead today — both focused on sustainable practices that respect the natural flow of the sap within each vine.
Respect for the environment — so essential when you work the land — is also evident in our work in the cellar. Winemaking at Mas Escorpí takes place in a winery that is a pioneer in terms of its commitment to sustainability, in which we make use, to a large extent, of renewable energies obtained from solar panels, the cleaning of wastewater, and even the storage of rainwater for later use.

Wines elaborated by our family after years of history lived alongside each wine and each grape variety. These are wines that tend to go against the grain, created in spite of trends, and which sometimes succeed in setting them.
